Panic at New York JFK airport as passengers evacuated following reports of shots fired
An investigation was under way at Terminal 8 while police searched for a suspect - but no evidence was found of a shooter
Panic ensued at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport following a mass evacuation after reports of gunshots fired inside.
Passengers fled Terminal 8 while police searched for a suspect, WPIX television and other news outlets said.
A preliminary investigation found no evidence of gunfire despite earlier reports of shots being heard, the airport's operator said.
No gun casings were found after a search of Terminal 8, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a Twitter message.
"The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution," the agency said. "Travelers should contact their carriers."
The evacuation was a precaution, Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo told CNN, as there were no injuries, arrests or confirmation of shots fired.
